Maintenance Fitter
Job Description & Workplace Context
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out preventative and reactive maintenance on thermoforming and packaging equipment
- Diagnose mechanical faults and complete breakdown repairs
- Troubleshoot forming, heating, sealing and vacuum systems
- Maintain pneumatic and compressed air systems
- Work with servo-driven machinery and automated packaging equipment
- Inspect and maintain film feed and tension control systems
- Support vacuum packaging and MAP equipment
- Perform tooling changes and machine adjustments
- Assist with production line changeovers and optimisation
- Monitor equipment performance and identify potential failures
- Investigate recurring breakdowns and complete root cause analysis
- Implement maintenance improvements to increase equipment reliability
- Work with production teams to minimise unplanned downtime
- Collaborate with engineering personnel on equipment performance and improvements
- Assist with installation and commissioning of new machinery
- Respond to production breakdowns and urgent maintenance requirements
- Maintain safe, organised and compliant maintenance practices
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Candidate Requirements & Eligibility
- Trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Fitting and Machining, or a related mechanical trade
- Proven experience as a Maintenance Fitter within manufacturing, food processing, packaging or a similar environment
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with thermoforming machinery
- Strong practical understanding of thermoforming processes
- MULTIVAC experience highly desirable
- Experience with MULTIVAC R-Series equipment advantageous
- Knowledge of forming stations and heating systems
- Experience with sealing, cutting and punching systems
- Knowledge of vacuum and compressed air systems
- Experience with servo-driven machinery
- Understanding of film feed and tension control
- Experience with automated packaging and product handling equipment
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic capability
- Pneumatic and hydraulic systems experience
- Ability to analyse complex machinery faults and identify root causes
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced production environment
- Strong focus on safety and preventative maintenance
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts
- Current 482 visa holders encouraged to apply
