Job Description & Workplace Context
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of an allocated section and manage its daily preparation and service
- Prepare and deliver dishes according to established recipes and presentation standards
- Assist with fresh pasta production and traditional dough preparation
- Maintain consistent quality, portion control, presentation, and timing
- Complete mise en place and ensure the section is fully prepared for service
- Work efficiently during busy and high-volume kitchen services
- Assist with stock management, ordering, inventory, and food cost control
- Apply appropriate food safety and hygiene practices throughout kitchen operations
- Maintain a clean, organised, and professional workstation
- Communicate effectively with senior chefs and other kitchen team members
- Support the development of efficient kitchen systems and professional standards
- Contribute positively to team performance and kitchen culture
Candidate Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 3–5 years of relevant professional chef experience
- Demonstrated experience in a structured commercial kitchen
- Proven ability to independently manage a kitchen section
- Experience working in busy service environments
- Italian cuisine experience strongly preferred
- Good knowledge of food preparation, food safety, and kitchen hygiene
- Understanding of stock control and commercial kitchen procedures
- Relevant cookery qualification such as NZ Level 4 or equivalent preferred
- Strong organisation, attention to detail, and time-management skills
- Ability to maintain quality and consistency under pressure
- Availability to work evenings and weekends
- Ability to work within a six-day kitchen operation
- Applicants must have legal work rights in New Zealand or meet Accredited Employer Work Visa requirements
