Job Description & Workplace Context

Your professional experience should speak for itself. This opportunity is aimed at experienced chefs who can demonstrate genuine kitchen capability, work to consistent standards, and take responsibility for delivering quality food in a professional environment. We are seeking a Chef de Partie to join a newly established premium dining operation in New Zealand. The role offers the chance to become part of the kitchen team from the beginning, working with seasonal produce and an Italian-inspired menu featuring fresh pasta, pizzettas, and carefully prepared dishes. Rather than simply filling a kitchen position, the successful candidate will be trusted to manage a section, maintain service standards, and contribute to building an organised and high-performing kitchen. Suitable overseas professionals may be considered for employer-supported sponsorship, subject to meeting New Zealand's Accredited Employer Work Visa requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of an allocated section and manage its daily preparation and service
  • Prepare and deliver dishes according to established recipes and presentation standards
  • Assist with fresh pasta production and traditional dough preparation
  • Maintain consistent quality, portion control, presentation, and timing
  • Complete mise en place and ensure the section is fully prepared for service
  • Work efficiently during busy and high-volume kitchen services
  • Assist with stock management, ordering, inventory, and food cost control
  • Apply appropriate food safety and hygiene practices throughout kitchen operations
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and professional workstation
  • Communicate effectively with senior chefs and other kitchen team members
  • Support the development of efficient kitchen systems and professional standards
  • Contribute positively to team performance and kitchen culture

Candidate Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 3–5 years of relevant professional chef experience
  • Demonstrated experience in a structured commercial kitchen
  • Proven ability to independently manage a kitchen section
  • Experience working in busy service environments
  • Italian cuisine experience strongly preferred
  • Good knowledge of food preparation, food safety, and kitchen hygiene
  • Understanding of stock control and commercial kitchen procedures
  • Relevant cookery qualification such as NZ Level 4 or equivalent preferred
  • Strong organisation, attention to detail, and time-management skills
  • Ability to maintain quality and consistency under pressure
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends
  • Ability to work within a six-day kitchen operation
  • Applicants must have legal work rights in New Zealand or meet Accredited Employer Work Visa requirements
  • Eligible overseas applicants may be considered for sponsorship
