Experienced Agricultural Diesel Mechanic
Job Description & Workplace Context
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and rectify faults across agricultural diesel machinery
- Service, repair and maintain tractors, harvesters, headers, sprayers and seeders
- Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance
- Attend machinery breakdowns and complete field repairs
- Troubleshoot diesel engines, transmissions and driveline systems
- Diagnose hydraulic, electrical and electronic faults
- Use manufacturer diagnostic systems and modern scan tools
- Inspect machinery and identify potential failures before they result in downtime
- Complete repairs efficiently during planting and harvest periods
- Carry out component replacement, adjustment and machinery modifications
- Fabricate or adapt parts when required for machinery repairs
- Maintain detailed service and repair records
- Keep workshop equipment and work areas organised and safe
- Follow workplace health, safety, environmental and quality procedures
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members and customers
- Participate in seasonal on-call and overtime requirements where applicable
- Help maintain high machinery availability during critical agricultural periods
Candidate Requirements & Eligibility
- Recognised Heavy Diesel Mechanic or Mobile Plant trade qualification
- Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology or equivalent qualification highly regarded
- Minimum 5 years of post-trade industry experience
- Strong and demonstrable agricultural machinery repair experience
- Experience with farming, cropping, harvesting or livestock machinery
- Broad knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, transmissions, driveline and electrical systems
- Strong diagnostic and mechanical fault-finding ability
- Ability to work confidently without constant supervision
- Experience working in both workshop and field-service environments
- Fluent English communication skills
- Current driver's licence, with HR licence advantageous
- Physically capable of working outdoors and in demanding rural conditions
- Reliable, safety-conscious and professionally responsible
- Able to provide evidence of trade qualifications and employment history
- Candidates already in Australia must hold appropriate work rights
