Key Responsibilities
- Lead the kitchen team and coordinate daily food service operations
- Create nutritious, varied and appealing meals for residents
- Develop menus that respond to resident preferences and dietary requirements
- Oversee food preparation, cooking and presentation
- Ensure meals meet required nutritional and quality standards
- Maintain compliance with food safety, hygiene and HACCP requirements
- Monitor kitchen cleanliness, organisation and workplace safety
- Manage food ordering, stock levels and kitchen supplies
- Assist with food cost management and waste reduction
- Train, guide and mentor kitchen team members
- Promote teamwork, professionalism and a positive kitchen culture
- Communicate with residents and respond appropriately to their dining preferences
- Work with care staff to accommodate individual dietary requirements
- Monitor resident feedback and identify opportunities to improve dining services
- Maintain appropriate kitchen records and compliance documentation
- Introduce practical improvements to kitchen systems and service delivery
- Ensure the kitchen consistently provides a welcoming and respectful dining experience
Candidate Requirements & Eligibility
- Relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery
- Proven experience working as a senior chef or kitchen manager
- Experience overseeing a commercial or large-scale catering operation
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, motivate and develop kitchen staff
- Strong understanding of HACCP, food safety and hygiene standards
- Ability to prepare nutritious meals for a range of dietary requirements
- Strong menu planning and food presentation skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
- Strong organisation and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a wider team
- A genuine interest in supporting the wellbeing and dignity of older people
- Experience in aged care, healthcare, hospitality or institutional catering is advantageous
- Ability to satisfy relevant Australian employment requirements
